Advanced Fly Fishing Classes

Catching trout at the stocking site the day after they have been released doesn’t take much skill or thought.  Catching fish that have moved away and become adapted to the river requires more advanced casting skills and an understanding of different habitats that attract and hold fish.  This school is designed for the fly fisherman who wants to be able to read the river, select the proper fly and deliver it with the right presentation.

The entire school will be on-stream at different locations that offer a variety of conditions, such as riffles, runs, pools, holes, pockets, cuts, eddies, inside, outside bends and more.

Approach, casting and fly selection for each condition will be discussed and demonstrated.

Each student will have hands-on at casting and wading as well as taking a part in the discussion of where, why and when would fish be found at any location.

Rods, line sizes, and leader configurations will be discussed and the advantages and disadvantages of different set-ups.

Conditions that effect fishing such as seasons, weather, water levels, clarity, temperatures, cloud cover, etc. will be covered.

The intention of the school is to get you beyond the stocking tube and looking for the more illusive holdover fish.

The cost of the 7-hr. class will be $75.  The time to start this class will be determined the day before and will depend on weather conditions.

Call Linda at 580-494-6115 to register.  The class will be limited to 5 persons!

Entomology for Fly Fishers

Three Rivers Fly Shop offers Entomology for Fly Fishers with entomologist Robert Woodruff three weekends during the year.  The registration fee is $50 for the 2-day class.

Entomology for Fly Fishers gives an overview of the arthropods, both aquatic and terrestrial, that are of importance to the fly fisherman.

Topics covered include sampling techniques, identification of both larval and adult stages and simple biology of the species.  The ultimate goal of the class is for the angler to develop the ability to equate in-the-field observation to fly selection and construction in order to achieve success.

The class consists of 4 hours of lecture and demonstration as well as a half-day field trip.  The classroom portion will be held at Three Rivers Fly Shop on Saturday and the field trip will be on the lower Mountain Fork River on Sunday.  While on the river, students will participate in the collection and evaluation of insect samples and receive instruction on fly selection.

Your place can be reserved for this class by calling us at 580-494-6115.  A VISA, MasterCard or Discover card can hold your spot or you can mail your check in the amount of $50 for each space you wish to reserve to Three Rivers Fly Shop, Route 4 Box 27-1, Broken Bow, OK  74728
